From the Artist
Every day I walk through a world that seems like madness. A world bristling with so many emotions, so many expressions. The world is overflowing with it.
Connecting with this emotional outburst in this world is done in an instant, in a click. We don’t even have to go and meet people.
The world as I see it is a complex maze of technical networks. Out of this maze emerges different softwares and apps that try and provide some meaningful connections to our lives.
In this maze the world’s symbols are changing. They become icons and buttons on our mobile phone. To get into life means to click on an icon.
In a world where change is constant the visual landscape is changing rapidly. That rapid change is the visual language of my paintings. They span towers and satellites and the world that comes to us in high definition (HD).
The visual language of my paintings grip you in an instant, like an instant click. Like an instant drink or a fast food, it immediately churns your emotions with quick dashes of colour and abstract lines, in one digital instant of quick realisation you grasp the meaning of my work. Then you can decide whether the world is cold and distant, or whether the world is really moving closer.
‘I cherish enacting my heartfelt annotations through my portrayal in canvas, carefully culminated from my vision and at times handpicked from the sun and the rain, people and their brush with good circumstances and also the evil ones, their way of living sometimes seen and mostly revealed in the innermost realm of mine.’ Those are quite poignant for me as all the images are enriched by my emotions envisaged at different moments owing to varied aspects around me.
I have tried to delve deep into the most subconscious layer of my psyche and attempted to portray them through my canvas. I tried my best to recapture the very existence and flavour of the objects which has truly empowered my vision and catapulted me to be what I am today.
I prefer to keep my canvas less crisscrossed by colour where symbolic representation of objects plays a pivotal role. I try to keep it bare minimal and also I long to invoke the imagination through the warmth of my desires.
About the Artist
Nabakumar has been engaged in the creative process of artmaking for nearly two decades. He is an urban painter, based out of Kolkata with an education from Rabindra Bharati University. His works reflect the city and its culture, which fascinates him very much. Nabakumar's work is a mix of humour, satire and semi - abstract art forms.
Art is all about etching one's own statement on life as it flows on a daily basis. The viewer may connect himself through the painter's content, observation and obsession. Nothing can be perfect in art.
Nabakumar's painting is a mix of symbolic icons filled with contemporary society, politics, human bondage and nature. There is no proclamation of so-called 'assertive notion' in his paintings.
Nabakumar has hosted many solo shows:
- Taj bengal,Kolkata,West Bengal, 2014
- Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, 2015
